2. Shutdown Trillian and restart.

  • A profile can contain an infinite number of identities.
  • Profiles maintain their own preferences and settings (such as skins and plugins).
  • Profiles can be password protected.

An identity is created within a profile to allow one person to have many "faces". For example, a user may have one Windows Live account that is used for business and one Windows Live account that is used for fun. The user wants to keep the business separate from the personal. In this situation, he'd create a second identity and add one of the Windows Live accounts to it.

  • A profile can hold an infinite number of identities.
  • An identity can hold an infinite number of accounts.
  • Two accounts of the same type (i.e. 2 AIM accounts) within a single identity will merge contacts (all contacts will appear on both accounts).
  • Each identity can have it's own identity icon, separate from other identities.
  • Identities can be connected simultaneously (all identities running from a single instance of Trillian).

To create an identity, open Trillian and go to the "Preferences->Accounts" section. Click the button at the bottom that says "Create a new identity" and add the new identity information. Trillian is also device aware, so you can add all of your accounts in all of your identities at work and home - set one set of accounts to login automatically on one device while leaving your other set of accounts offline and Trillian will remember the settings.

To remove an empty identity, click on the identity (Preferences->Accounts) then click the delete button.
