No icon in system tray can not open interface
Support Staff 3 Posted by Glenn on 06 Aug, 2012 11:29 AM
Try reinstalling directly on top of your current install. While you won't lose anything, it will reset anything that might have become corrupted.
Let me know if it is still not working.

Hi Glen, I tried to reinstall three (3) times no luck the icon is not in
the system tray, can not open the interface. My OS is windows 7 Home
Premium 32 bit, computer is an HP pavilion 818. I have Trillian installed
on three machines 2 desktops & 1 laptop. All programs were working well
until a few days ago, the no icon was the first problem, the rest of the
problem appeared on the desktop, also running Windows 7 PRO OS Computer is
a Dell XPS 64 bit. On this machine I cannot transfer a file, interface is
OK, on the 3rd. machine, this is also a Windows 7 PRO OS 32 bit is a Dell
Studio, when I booted up I received a automatic update for Trillian even
though I configured not to do automatic updates. Now the Trillian is
permanently in off line status, the icon is in the system tray & I can open
the interface but I can not change to online, although I click the button
it stays off line . Did Trillian send out updates or is this some kind of
virus or malware? It seems very suspicious that all three machine suddenly
have a problem. All three were working correctly in the weeks, months &
years before, I forgot to mention these are paid subscriptions and I have
used Trillian for at least 10 years or more. Please help thanks in advance.

Let's attach the first machine, then we can concentrate on the other problems. There was a mandatory updated pushed out last week. All should be on the latest version. Additionally, if you're not able to get online, it's because we changed the port for communication with our servers. Can you update the port used to connect to Trillian? There are two ways to do that:
1) Click on the pencil icon in the upper right of the tile on the login screen
2) Click on the Trillian Button in the Contact List -> Manage Accounts -> Click on the astra username -> Settings
Change the port from 3158 -> 443.

Ok did that, rebooted twice, stsrted Trillian, still no icon cannot open
message window. Prehaps I didn't explain to you clearly I can send amessage
to this account but can not open message windo to send message from this
account. The v I installed is 4.2.0.26 the logon screen says it is v
4.20build 29, don't know if that means anything. What should I try next?
Support Staff 7 Posted by Glenn on 07 Aug, 2012 09:41 PM
Here is something you can try:
Let me know if it still does not show up.

Wait - those instructions will reset the contact list for you. Have you hidden the icon in the Windows System Tray? Try this: http://windowstipoftheday.blogspot.com/2005/05/hiding-or-unhiding-n...

OK deleted Buddy still no icon in system tray, still can not open interface
or message window. No the icon is not hidden. When I open the configuration
interface, Trillian is listed but has incorrect icon, when I try to
activate I receive a message that the next time I run the program it will
be activated, program is running. I was thinking what if I completely
un-installed Trillian and reinstalled, as if it was fresh new install? I
will need you to give me complete instructions on how to un-install but
save or retrieve my licence key. Do you think this might work?
Support Staff 10 Posted by Glenn on 08 Aug, 2012 08:24 PM
You don't need a license key - just your username and password. Try installing Trillian to a different directory on your system and see if the problem follows. If the problem follows to the new installation let us know and we will see if we can figure out what's going on.

Were you trying to install Trillian 4.2? Would you be willing to try our latest beta version to see if the problem is resolved? The download link is: http://www.trillian.im/get/windows/beta/
Please install and let me know if you're still having issues.

Glen, another queues thing Trillian is not listed in the explorer program
list on both machines. In order to find it I have to drill down. Is this
normal?

The beta version is 5.2.0.12.
You can install on top of existing install. It should be in Program Files (x86).

glen are we still working my problem or have I been blown off?
Support Staff 18 Posted by Glenn on 16 Aug, 2012 03:13 AM
Nothing was "blown off". My last message (http://help.trillian.im/discussions/windows/4766-icon#comment_17934917) was the last entry until you posted this one(http://help.trillian.im/discussions/windows/4766-icon#comment_18056467). If I post and you don't reply, then I can only assume that your issue is resolved. If you're still having trouble, you need to post and let me know.
So, you asked me two questions, which I answered. Where do we stand?
19 Posted by Babar Protus on 16 Aug, 2012 10:05 PM
1. Still have the same problems, reinstalled over existing install, still
no icon in system tray. Can not open interface or messagw window.
2. Did reinstall on machine that could not send files. Now it no longer
shows icon in the system tray.
3. Laptop after forced install interface is frozen in offline mode and I
con not on line.

Wow - sounds like something serious is going on but I'm not sure what. I will pass this to a developer for further troubleshooting.
21 Posted by Irv on 20 Aug, 2012 10:15 PM
Any better suggestions?
22 Posted by Babar Potus on 22 Aug, 2012 11:12 PM
Is any one still helping me? Or am I on my own?
Support Staff 23 Posted by Glenn on 23 Aug, 2012 12:10 AM
As I mentioned, I've passed your information along to a developer. I apologize for the delay but someone should be able to figure out what's going on and help you get back up and running soon.
