I am having similar issue. I do not want anyone that does NOT
KNOW my work email and my trillian account name to be able to
invite me to add them as a contact.
I am getting invites from people I don't know, and this account
is for my co-workers ONLY. It seems that users can just search my
name and them request they be added as a contact.
I am deny'ing the invites, but I prefer to block them all
together.

Right-click each connection icon and click "Account Settings".
Go to the "Privacy" section and you will see the option to only
allow people on your buddy list to send you messages. Every medium
is worded a little differently but they all have the same
effect.
