MSN - connection to group conversation lost
I am trying to talk with a group of friends over the msn
protocol but I keep getting "connection to group conversation
lost".
How can i fix this?
Also is there a way to join back into a group conversation without having to be invited again?

Hi - MSN group chats aren't "joinable" in the traditional sense, so there is no way to get in unless you're invited. How often are you getting the connection issue? When it happens, are you also getting kicked off MSN entirely? It could be a random blip with the internet connection causing you to lose both MSN and all open group chats if so.

Thanks for explaining about joining.
I kept connection to all of my other chats (msn included-even to some of the people in the group chat).
Although I think they do auto rejoin, dont they?

Some networks auto-rejoin, like AIM, but others do not. So when the MSN error occurs, you're saying you are still fully online and able to talk to other MSN people, you just get kicked out of this one chat only?

I am having an issue as well related to this. We use msn a lot at work and I will add a bunch of people to a conversation and then just a few minutes later it will say they've all been removed. Our internet connection is always fine and one-on-one msn conversations are happening simultaneously.

Megan,
All the other people leave the conversation but you are still within it? Is it possible that their connections are having issues?

This is a problem that i've had for at least a year with Trillian. It's annoying but I've put up with it. I'd like to see if it can be fixed.
This happens with MSN group chats. When the conversation has been idle for about for about 15 minutes (I've never worked out exactly how long it is), the connection lost message appears. If the conversation of other participants resumes, I can still see what's being said, but I can't type anything in the text entry field. The only way to participate again is to close the group chat window and be re-invited.
I persuaded a friend to use Trillian recently and we noticed that we BOTH get the same error message in the same group chat at EXACTLY the same time. It's as if there is a pre-determined timeout for idle MSN group chats, that's built into Trillian.
It's a frustrating problem, as I'd rather not have to be re-invited into conversations that go idle for a while. I hope you can help resolve it!

Neil,
Thanks for the extra information, we will investigate it on our end. I'll let you know if we have more questions for you.

Just wanted to confirm that a third friend is experiencing exactly the same problem at exactly the same time as the other two of us. It's really starting to annoy us! :)
Is there any update on the status of this issue please? :)

Okay I just observed some more unusual behaviour that may help you diagnose the problem. Also, I have the approximate timeout duration.
I was in a group chat with friends (two of whom also use Trillian). There was a long period of silence, and I added a message and hit enter to send. The message was sent, but almost immediately after, I recieved the "Connection to group conversation lost." message in my text entry area.
From my view, I could see my latest message in the chat window as if it had been sent successfully, but one of my friends (who uses Trillian and who also saw the connection error) could not see that message in her window. This tells me that sending a message at about the time of the connection error isn't enough to keep the connection alive. Or at least if the message doesn't get sent to the other users in the conversation.
Below is the chatlog from around the time of the lost connection. The last line is the message I sent but wasn't seen by my friends:
[01:09] Nicole: XD [01:09] neilcreek: they'll work as we enter data [01:09] neilcreek: or till i figure out how to get it to output nothing if the inputs are empty... [01:23] neilcreek: is anyone here any good with spreadsheet functions? ^;
From that at least I can calculate the timeout period on this occasion was approximately 14 minutes.
Good luck with this annoying problem!

Thanks again for the information!

I am not entirely sure that this is related to a connection issue. For example, there are 5 people in a group conversation and all of a sudden it says "Joe has been removed from this conversation" and then "Jane has been removed from this conversation". This leaves three people in the conversation still who did not get "removed" but are working off the exact same internet connection. On Joe's computer, it will say "Megan has been removed". Thanks for the discussion, I am really hoping to sort this out!

Definitely sounds related. Thanks.

Some more information possibly related to this issue:
I have noticed recently then when I'm booted from a group convo, if I don't close that tab, then Trillian can get confused about which tab is active. When in a group chat from which I (and others) are disconnected, if I start a new group chat to carry on the conversation without closing the tab of the failed group chat, messages in the NEW chat from others appear in the OLD one, and mine appear in the NEW one, and the other people in the chat don't see mine. I am unable to participate in the old chat for the previously mentioned reasons.
This may be a feature of Trillian, and may not be related to the bug in question, but I thought I'd mention it here in case it was possibly diagnostic.
